Quick blog: I can’t stop thinking American

This morning I was teaching a class of 11-year old students English words for the weather (sunny, cloudy, foggy, windy, etc.) when most of them stormed outside the class to look at something.  When something like this happened in school when I was a kid, it meant there was a fight and everyone gathered round to watch it.

I’ve lived in Thailand for a year, but I still think like an American.  I ran outside and was ready to break up whatever tussle I found.  There was no fight – it was an elephant.  It was walking down the road with two attendants.

Of course it wasn’t a fight, I told myself.  Of course it was an elephant.  Why wouldn’t it be?  This is Thailand.

A new surprise every day.
